when you stood beneath the dark canopy of sky
tears were the prayers you offered
as star light slanted through the stain glass of night . . .
silence was the chant of your midnight mass
reverence your vestments
chalice and paten held the wine, the bread of legacy
nourishing those who would come seeking
their own tears as prayer
and their own dark canopy of sky
